Clinical Waste Management in Hospitals, Colombo

Pilot Project for the Treatment of Clinically Contaminated Waste at National Hospital Colombo, and Castle Street Hospital for Women, Colombo 8

This project involved the supply, installation and commissioning of Hydroclave Units for the disposal of clinical waste at the National Hospital Sri Lanka & Castle Street Hospital for Women in Colombo. The project was funded by the World Bank

Premium International secured the contract on a turnkey basis and was responsible for the overall successful project implementation

Project Description

The handling and disposal of contaminated cliAfter conducting workshops and educating clients, the Health Sector Development Program (HSDP) launched a pilot project to design, construct, supply, and install steam sterilization systems and mechanical pipes for clinical waste treatments. This project was conducted with the assistance of the Ministry of Health and the Word Bank.nical waste is hazardous and poses as a risk to hospital staff.

Facility Description

Design and construction of building complexes for collection, storage and treatment of clinically contaminated waste at National Hospital of Sri Lanka and Castle Street Hospital for Women
Supply, installation and commissioning of complete “Hydroclave waste treatment systems” at the two hospitals
All clinically contaminated waste generated in Colombo public hospitals are now treated at these two centers and waste disposed as per international healthcare standards with zero harm to the environment and people

Supply installation and commissioning of complete waste treatment systems comprising of Hydroclaves, boilers, shredders and related M & E works
Operator application training and technical maintenance training for nominated staff
Operation and management of the facility for 2 years at both hospitals
